Week 2 Report
After another powerhouse display Black Swan are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Dave Hodgson the best of the night leading them to an 8-2 win over Knaresborough Lions. Bardsey once again proved what a formidable home force they have become subjecting Wayside to a rare defeat. Alan Baldwin got them off to a good start with a 21-9 win with captain Andrew Dodsworth bringing in the rear also wining 21-9 and securing an excellent 7-3 win for his team.
Alan Rothery 21-4 continued his excellent form to secure his second single figure win and helping Bilton WMC on their way to an 8-2 victory over Dacre Eagles. Knaresborough Tigers tried to make a fight of it down at Spa Lane but Starbeck proved too strong taking the game 9-1. If Low Harrogate is to avoid a relegation battle then good home results are going to be vital. With Alan Blackburn 21-5, Chris Sunter 21-5 and Carol Sunter 21-9 all bowling exceptionally well for Bilton Centurians it’s going to prove a difficult task as the Bilton club take the game 7-3.
In Division 2 it was a home Derby at Bilton as the Spartans and Trojans met. With both teams expecting to compete at the top of the table, it was the Spartans who took first advantage with Stephen Walker 21-8 leading them to an 8-2 victory. It was a great home start for Almscliffe as they beat Bardsey Osprey 9-1. Youth showed the way as James Bushby 21-1 and Adam Briggs 21-5 put in commanding displays with skipper Carl Bushby 21-5 leading his team home with back to back single figure wins.
Black Swan sit at the top of the Div 2 table after beating Wayside Wanderers 7-3. Peter Nacey 21-5, Chris Allison 21-7 and Don Rider 21-9 the best of the night. Collingham once again showed how difficult they can be to beat on home soil after securing a 7-3 win over Wetherby. It was back to winning ways for Pateley Bridge as they visited a struggling Low Harrogate ‘B’. The Nidderdale team going home with 8 points.
In Division 3 Roy Wyatt and John Johnson helped secure a 7-3 win for Starbeck over Almscliffe both winning 21-9. Wayside Ramblers gained their first win of the season beating Knaresborough Badgers 7-3. Two wins from two put Bilton WMC at the top of the table after beating Pateley Bridge 7-3. Ray Carrick 21-3 and Peter Kirtlan 21-7 doing the bulk of the damage. The Clubmen are showing some strong early running in a season where promotion will be firmly in their minds.
It was four winners apiece as Wetherby hosted Dacre Falcons. It was the home team that took the aggregate however to secure a 6-4 win despite Ray Swires 21-7 commanding display for the Falcons. Harry O’Neil led the way for Bilton Athenians as they defeated Boston Spa 6-4. John Kinroy 21-4 and Leo Wynzar the best of the night for Boston but still not enough to secure the aggregate.
It was a local derby in Division 4 as Low Harrogate C played Low Harrogate D. Ken Porter 21-5 and Marina Wright 21-6 the best bowlers of the night and helping the C team to a 7-3 win over their stablemates. Ian McLeod 21-9 helped Starbeck to a 6-4 win over Collingam. Philip Skelton’s 21-5 fightback for Collingham just not enough. Brian Clementson 21-6, Herbie Rennison 21-9 and David Ayre 21-9 were all on form as Knaresborough Foxes beat Dacre Kites 7-3. Dacre’s best performance come from Mary Cowie 21-9. Ian Voakes helped Black Swan secure the aggregate in their 6-4 win over Pateley.
