Week 5 Report
Wayside Wanderers sit at the top of Division 2 after a hard fought 7-3 victory over Bilton Trojans. Mac McDonnell started his first game of the season with a good 21-8 win followed in similar fashion by Cedric Cockcroft 21-9. Ken Plummer was the Trojan of the night with a 21-8 win. With a game in hand Black Swan keep the pressure on after beating Bilton Spartans 7-3. John Gibbins proving his quality with a 21-8 win.
Bardsey Osprey’s solid home form continues as they beat Collingham 8-2. Rita Hill showed the way winning 21-9. Things were tight as Pateley Bridge entertained Wetherby Knights. With four winners apiece it was Jenny Kirkbright 21-8 and Tom Shardlow 21-8 who secured the aggregate and a 6-4 win. The result of the week went to Almscliffe Climbers as they dominated Low Harrogate 9-1. Eric Marwood returning to winning way’s with his 21-6 victory.
Dacre Falcons soar at the top of the 3rd Division beating Starbeck 7-3. Athol Hill 21-6 and Audrey Hardcastle 21-8 both winning well. A strong team display from Boston Spa ensured a 6-4 win over Bilton WMC with John Kinroy 21-7 and Micheal Rowlatt doing the damage.
Murial Ayre 21-9 and Alan Walker 21-9 dominated the Knaresborough versus Almcliffe Ramblers tie as the home team secured an 8-2 win. Wetherby Cavaliers beat Wayside Rangers 7-3 after a close set of games. The Bilton Athenians result has unfortunately not been received in time for this report.
Low Harrogate 3 Pateley Bridge 7 is the only Division 4 result available with Ken Blakey 21-8 and Mark Derham 21-9 both adapting well to a difficult green.
In Division 5 Mollie Denision 21-5 Kevin Clark 21-7 and Brenda Rhodes 21-9 all bowled exceptionally well as Almscliffe Strollers beat Starbeck 8-2. Terry Mitton proved to be Starbeck’s star man with a 21-4 victory. It was a margin of victory shared by Bardsey Merlins as they beat Knaresborough Hounds. It was another powerhouse display from Enid Fairbanks winning 21-8. Despite only two winners for the Hounds, Mick Meston 21-4 and David Wood 21-8 ensured they were two very good winners.
The new look Wayside Ramblers picked up a good home win as they beat Dacre Owls 7-3. The new bowlers all enjoyed a very good evening under the watchful eye of skipper Steve Cochrane. Stuart Whitehead 21-2 getting the best win closely followed by Gladys Booth 21-3 for the Owls.
Back in the top flight it was delight for the Clubmen as they beat Wayside 7-3 on their own green. Wayside got off to a flyer winning the first three games but Bilton WMC tore through the remaining five winning them all.
Black Swan opened up a four point lead at the top of the Division after beating Dacre Eagles 9-1. Paul Birtwhistle 21-3, Martin Hemmingway 21-6 and Alan Whittaker 21-7 all dominating their home green once again. Bardsey keep in touch in second place beating Knaresborough Lions 8-2. John Jennison once again proved unstoppable at home winning 21-8.
Alex Wolfenden 21-9 led home a strong team performance for Starbeck as they beat a struggling Low Harrogate 8-2. David Spilsbury was back to his best however winning 21-8.
Despite a 21-4 win for Rob Barker Knaresborough Tigers missed out on their first win of the season by the narrowest of margins. With four winners apiece Bilton Centurions took the aggregate by 2 chalks to secure a 6-4 win.
