Week 6 Report

In the opening game of the week Black Swan were rampant as they tore through a hapless Low Harrogate to take the tie 9-1. Dave Rowson 21-8, Martin Hemmingway 21-8, Paul Birtwhistle 21-9 and Dave Hodgson 21-9 all ensuring their team take a clear 7 point lead at the top of the table.

It was another battling display from Dacre Eagles against Knaresborough Tigers. An excellent home display by George Bellis ensured his team gained the aggregate and secured a good 5-5 draw despite only 3 winners. Bardsey Kestrels were in fighting form on their visit to Bilton WMC winning 5 out of the first 6 games. A strong finish by Clubmen Derrick Fox 21-8 and Alan Rothery ensured a tied aggregate however. The Kestrels finally leaving happy with a 6-4 win but knowing it could have been more.

Bilton Centurions put reigning champions Wayside to the sword after an outstanding home performance winning 8-2. Whilst all games were very competitive, skipper Ken Coker, Maurice Skaife Chris and Carol Sunder all put in displays of particular note. No Knaresborough Lions result to report on as yet.

In Division 2 Black Swan 2nd were in devastating form as they beat Low Harrogate B 10-0. Barry Turnbull returning to his old stomping ground in style with a 21-9 win. There was a real battle at Grange Park as Wetherby entertained Wayside Wanderers. With 4 games finishing 21-20, one 21-19 and another 21-18, it was the visitors that finally managed to edge the game with a 7-3 win.

Pateley Bridge kept themselves in touch of the league leaders with a 7-3 win over Bilton Spartans. Mike Hall putting in a commanding display winning 21-6. Bilton Trojans found the going slightly better than their stable mates beating Bardsey Osprey 7-3.

Eric Marwood 21-7 led Almscliffe on a successful foray at Collingham with the visitors leaving as 7-3 victors.

Knaresborough Badgers share top spot in Division 3 after beating Bilton Athenians 6-4. Jack Stanley 21-5 making sure of the aggregate points. Boston Spa are level at the top after a 21-9 win from Phil Harrison helped them to an 8-2 victory over Dacre Falcons.

Things were tight as Bilton WMC visited Almscliffe. With 4 winners each, it was a family affair as Stuart and Tony Worsnop (21-3 and 21-9) secured the aggregate and a 6-4 win. Sweet Revenge for the Clubmen after Almscliffe knocked them out to the Cup the previous week.

Roy Wyatt was once again the star man down at Spa Lane. His 21-9 adding to an excellent team performance as Starbeck beat Wetherby Cavaliers 9-1. Wayside Rangers beat Pateley Bridge 6-4 with Gerry Newing getting the best result of the evening winning 21-9.

In Division 4 Marina Wright 21-7 and Colin Wright 21-9 made sure Low Harrogate C beat Bilton Corinthians 6-4. Gladys Blakeson was the player of the match winning 21-5 for Pateley. She was only one of two Pateley winners however as Knaresborough Foxes ran out 8-2 winners.

It was another tight contest between Collingham and Black Swan with each time winning 4 games. John Rowson secured the extra points winning 21-7 with saw Swan go home with a 6-4 win.

A good performance from Low Harrogate D saw them gain their first win of the season as they beat Dacre Kites 7-3. The star of the evening was still a home bowler however as Philip Livsey ran out a 21-8 winner.

Black Swan 4th team capped of an excellent week for the club with a full house of winners. Ernie Sadler 21-6, Angela Hodgson 21-8 and Jack Hodgson 21-9 all added to a 10-0 victory over Dacre Owls. Starbeck beat Bardsey Merlins 7-3. Enid Fairbanks winning streak continued with a 21-9. Susanne Tobin was also on form for the Merlin’s winning 21-8 matched only by Starbeck’s Jeff Walkington.

Tonight see’s the Yorkshire Merit qualifier event taking place at Boston Spa with a 6.30pm start time. All supporters are most welcome as the region’s top bowlers via for a place in the final of one of Yorkshire’s premier events.
