Week 7 Report
An exceptional performance from Boston Spa has moved them into top spot in Division 3 opening a 2 point gap over Dacre Falcons.
As Boston beat Wetherby Cavaliers 9-1, John Kinroy’s unbeaten run continues after another fine display that maintains his position as the division’s top performer. The man of the match award was reserved for Ian Scott however after his 21-8 win.
Jenny Savage 21-6 and Athol Hill 21-9 ensured Dacre keep the pressure on as they beat Almscliffe Ramblers 9-1. Bilton WMC had a battle on their hands against a determined Knaresborough Badgers. Alan Walker made a good start for the Badgers winning 21-7 but Jim Harrison 21-3 and Peter Kirtlan 21-9 steadied the ship for the Clubmen. Phil Wrightson maintained his unbeaten run. With four winners each WMC took the aggregate to secure a 6-4 win.
Things were equally as tight as Pateley Bridge beat Starbeck by the same margin. Adam Varley got the Dales team off to a great start winning 21-3 with the best performance of his season so far.
Ian Mallinson 21-6 and Robin Coatman 21-7 made an immediate impact for Wayside Rangers on their visit to Bilton Athenians. The Ranger’s went on to win 7-3 despite another exceptional performance from Jason Worsnop winning 21-8. With so many teams capable of winning the title, Division 3 remains one of the most unpredictable and competitive divisions.
In Division 4 a 9-1 win for Black Swan over Dacre Kites see’s them lead the table. Bilton Corinthians beat Collingam 7-3 and Starbeck gained a good 6-4 win over Pateley Bridge. Jon Lynch 21-7 and Don Palmer 21-8 ensured the aggregate. Sid Brown 21-9 led Low Harrogate D to their second consecutive victory as they beat Knaresborough Foxes 8-2.
In Division 5 Jack Hodgson’s excellent progress continues as Black Swan beat Wayside Ramblers 7-3. It is a result that not only takes them to the top of the league, but also puts his club in the unique position of topping every one of their Divisions.
Strong performances from Judith Saynor 21-4 and John Rhodes 21-8 helped Almscliffe Strollers with to a 6-4 win away to Dacre Owls.
Back in the top flight Wayside Travellers returned to winning way’s beating Dacre Eagles 8-2. Yorkshire Merit qualifier Chris Rigby putting in the best performance of the evening winning 21-4. Black Swan continue to dominate the league after beating Knaresborough Tigers 9-1. Dave Hodgson helping his team open up a 10 point gap with his 21-5 victory.
Starbeck and Bilton WMC shard four winner’s each in their extremely competitive tie. Terry Abrams making the difference however winning 21-8 that ensured a 6-4 win for WMC. Bardsey Kestrel’s unbeaten run continues after their 6-4 win over the on form Bilton Centurions. Phil Hill 21-4 and skipper Andrew Dodsworth 21-6 once again proving unstoppable on their home green.
Lance Graham was back to his best winning 21-5 as Knaresborough Lions visited Low Harrogate. John Ingledew finished the game in style winning 21-7 with saw the Lions win 8-2 overall.
Division 2 leaders Black Swan put in another powerhouse performance beating Collingam 9-1. Peter Nacey 21-3, Bob Parker 21-5, Dave Lickley 21-5 and Barry Howarth 21-9 all bowling exceptionally well.
Bardsey Osprey beat Wetherby Knights 8-2 but it was Knight Sir Henry Maude that took the headlines with his own 21-6 joust. Don Northing 21-8 Joan Hackney 21-9 and Tom Shardlow 21-9 all found the Wayside green to their liking as Pateley beat the Wanderer’s 7-3. It was a result for Shardlow that maintains his unbeaten run as the division’s top player.
Adam Briggs 21-4 and Jim Walker 21-8 led Almscliffe Climbers to an excellent home performance as they beat Bilton Trojans 9-1. Bilton Trojans secured their revenge later in the week however beating the Climbers in the semi final of the Grange Cup.
