Week 10

In the league Bardsey go into the second half of the season underway in winning style. Derek Stone 21-8 helping them to an 8-2 victory over Knaresborough Tigers. It was an excellent week for Knaresborough Lions however as they beat Dacre Eagles 9-1. Trevor Ingledew 21-7 and Roy Bushell 21-9 bowling well, but the performance of the evening was reserved for Ian Farrar winning 21-4.

It was a battling display from Starbeck as they hosted Black Swan. Paul Birtwhistle helping the swan to a 7-3 victory however after his 21-9 win. There were four winners each in a tight contest between Low Harrogate and Wayside. The visitors just doing enough to win the aggregate and take a 6-4 win. Bilton WMC were in form in their local derby against Bilton Centurions. John Carne received the man of the match with his 21-7 winning performance.

Black Swan’s dominance in Division 2 continued as they beat league rivals Pateley Bridge 10-0. Bob Parker 21-1, Barry Howarth 21-5 and Barry Turnbull 21-6 all excelled. It was a good display from Low Harrogate B gaining 5 winners at home against Wetherby Knights. With the whole Wetherby team scoring at least 18 chalks each however the visitors took the aggregate to ensure a 5-5 draw.

Joyce Light led the Bilton Spartans to a 7-3 win over Bardsey Osprey. Almscliffe shared the same winning margin over Wayside Wanderers. Adam Briggs 21-7 and Chris Olding 21-8 dominating at home with Alan Walker 21-7 proving Waysides star man. Macky Pickering won 21-4 for Collingam against Bilton Trojans. Rose Coker pulled it back for the Trojans with a 21-7 who eventually went on to win the game 7-3.

Starbeck were in fine form in Division 3. Darren Godber 21-5 and Chris Lynch 21-5 helping them on to an 8-2 win over Boston Spa. Knaresborough gained a 7-3 win in their visit to Pateley after a 21-3 from Dave Roger taking them to the top of the table. It was a close fought battle between Bilton Athenians and Dacre Falcons. The Athenians took the tie 6-4 with Jason Worsnop 21-6 and Brian Wrigglesworth 21-8 both dominating.

Arthur Cox got Wetherby off to a good start winning 21-5 against Bilton WMC. Tony Worsnop finished just as strongly for the Clubmen however winning 21-6. The Cavaliers went on to win the match 7-3. A winning margin shared by Wayside Rangers over Almscliffe Ramblers.

Bilton Corinthians jumped into second spot in Division 4 after beating Low Harrogate D 7-3. Ernie Blackburn 21-6, Peter Birdsall 21-8 and Ronnie Green 21-9 all found the green to their liking. Geoff Pickering helped secure a 6-4 win for Collingham over Knaresborough Fox’s after his 21-7 win.
Dacre Kites also beat Pateley Bridge 6-4. Kirsty Clarke 21-8 and Stewart Goosey 21-9 made the difference this time. It was a winning display from Starbeck over Low Harrogate D. Jon Lynch 21-1 and Ian Robinson 21-7 dominating on their own green.

It was a good week for the new bowlers of Wayside Ramblers as they beat Starbeck 7-3. Stuart Whitehouse put in his best performance of the season winning 21-1. The team also helped young Katie Kennedy celebrate her first league win. It was also nice to see a return to the green for Starbeck’s Nick Baranovski. After an extended break Nick was straight back to winning ways with his 21-5 result. Almslciffe Strollers went to the top of the table after beating Bardsey Marlins 8-2.

Brenda Rhodes again lead the way with her 21-9 victory.
The North Yorkshire county team are back in action this Sunday as they take on a strong Cannock team at the Black Swan. It’s a must win game so all support will be very welcomed in what is sure to be an excellent match.
