Week 11

Knaresborough Badgers have ceased control in Division 3 as they go three points clear at the top of the table after beating Wayside Rangers 7-3.

Phil Attwell 21-4, Geoff Rolph 21-6, Olga Walkington 21-9 and Dave Rodger 21-9 all using their home advantage to gain good wins. It looks like we could be down to a three horse race for the title as both Dacre Falcons and Boston Spa keep the pressure on after also winning.

Margaret Peel 21-07 and Athol Hill 21-9 both bowled exceptionally well as the Falcons beat Wetherby Cavaliers 7-3. Paddy Tyler responding well for the Cavaliers securing his own 21-9 win. It was a good performance from Bilton Athenians, particularly from Max Dodd winning 21-8 against Boston Spa. The competitive Spa team bowled well themselves however to gain a 7-3 victory.

Bilton WMC won 5 games in their visit to Pateley Bridge. It was an all round good team performance from Pateley however as they done enough to take the aggregate and a 5-5 draw. Man of the match was young Adam Varley who bounced back exceptionally well after a difficult result the previous week to win 21-9. Chris Lynch and Barry Woodward were the form men as Almscliffe hosted Starbeck. The ‘Beck men both winning 21-9 in their teams overall 8-2 victory.

Black Swan are sitting proud at the top of Division 4. Hitting Patley Bridge like a whirlwind it was a clean sweep at home as they won 10-0. John Rowson 21-4 and Peter Hartley 21-9 doing the early damage in the first half and Ian Morrell 21-6 and Ian Voakes 21-9 following up in the second. It was also a good week for Dacre Kites after beating Knaresborough Foxes 9-1. Ted Smith couldn’t put a foot wrong in his 21-1 win with Stewart Goosey hot on his tails with his 21-7 display.

Honours were shared 5 apiece between Collingham and Starbeck. Starbeck gained five winners but Collingham done enough to take the aggregate. It was a home derby between Low Harrogate C and Low Harrogate D this week. The C team taking the advantage and winning 7-3 largeley helped by Alan Winstanley’s 21-8 win.

In Division 5 Dacre Owls visited Knaresborough Hounds winning 6-4. Doreen Addyman 21-9 and David Brockhill 21-9 bowling best for the Owls with David Wood proving the home team star man after his 21-4 win. Bardsey Merlins were dominant in their match against Wayside Ramblers winning 9-1. Bill Fairbanks 21-5, Enid Fairbanks 21-5, Stan Whitehead 21-7 and Maureen Baines 21-8 all bowling exceptionally well.

Back in the top flight Black Swan go marching on. Led by Phil English 21-5 and Dave Rowson 21-8 they showed little mercy to the Lions as they beat Knaresborough 10-0. Wayside closed the gap for second place to a single point after beating
Bardsey 9-1. Mac McDonnell 21-4 and Mark Reynolds 21-6 opened the first half well for Wayside. Chris Rigby dominated the second half winning 21-7 with the muppet red-eyes on display. Don Chapman’s exceptional form continued for Bardsey as he finished the game on a high note winning 21-8.

It was a close contest as Bilton WMC visited Dacre. Winning four games each it was Alan Rothery 21-9 who made the difference ensuring a 6-4 win for the Clubmen. Bilton Centurions battle on getting another good win under their belts. Carol Sunter 21-4, Chris Sunter 21-4, Paul Worsnop 21-7 and Ken Coker 21-9 all dominating their home green well as they beat Low Harrogate 7-3. It is a valuable three points for the Tewitt Well team. Points well earned and hard fought for given the Centurions lowest score was 18. The Tigers versus Starbeck result is unfortunately more than a week overdue and therefore cannot be reported on.

Black Swan 2nd are looking more like the untouchables at the top of Division 2 after beating rivals Wayside Wanderers 8-2. Peter Nacey 21-7, Alan Whittaker 21-8 and Don Rider 21-9 all helping them to a clear 23 point lead in the table.
Stephen Walker proved the star man in the club derby between Bilton Trojans and Bilton Spartans as he won 21-2. Irene Small followed suit for the Spartans winning 21-8 hhelping them to a 7-3 win. Almslciffe Climbers were very pleased with their visit to Bardsey as they won 8-2. Linda Mokes 21-5, Ernie Millington 21-8, Ron Matthews 21-9 and John Mokes 21-9 were all in fine fettle for Wetherby Knights as they beat Collingham 7-3. Colin Darley put up Collinghams main fight with his 21-8 victory.

Result of the week in the division was reserved for Pateley Bridge after beating Low Harrogate 10-0. Joan Hackney 21-7, Jenny Kirkbright 21-7 and Tony Derrick 21-9 all helped them to the perfect 10 out of 10.

The North Yorkshire county team were in action this week against a strong top of the table Cannock team. It was a close fought contest after some exceptional bowling displays with the Yorkshire team just missing out 424-421. They were left feeling slightly unlucky after winning 13 out of 24 games. Special mention goes to Bardsey’s Mark Holmes who bowled fantastically well to win 21-4. Other home winners were Derrick Fox 21-14, Bobby Coker 21-19, Martin Hemmingway 21-16, Brian Walker 21-13, Alan Rothery 21-20 and Gordon Flower 21-20. Away team winners were John Jennison 21-14, Dave Hodgson 21-20, Alex Wolfenden 21-15, Alan Telford 21-14, Andy Walton 21-8, and Graham Franklin 21-13.
